This isn't a page about global warming, although it probably should be. Nor is it a page about "saving the planet," which it probably also should be. I have long since decided that "saving the planet" is the epitome of arrogance. We haven't even learned how to take care of each other yet. We don't protect our soldiers, we can't get health care and medication to our old people and children, we start wars, we gay bash, we love our bigotry, we destroy nations and we murder, rape and pillage in the name of outdated imperialism and religion. Saving the plant is out of the question until we learn to love and take care of each other. But even through all of the bad things we do to each other and to the world, Earth matters. Earth matters because this planet for better or worse is all we have. There is no where else to go and the best we can do is our own small parts to help protect the planet we love. Every time the old hippie and I take a hiking or camping trip, I fall in love with this beautiful planet all over again. The only way I know how to express the wonders I have seen and the perfect moments I have felt while in our beloved mountains or on some trail somewhere, is through my own original poetry. I have shared some of that poetry here. Just click on the thumbnail to read the poem.
